Chalupas

we’ve all had those yummy Taco Bell chalupas, well at least I have! We’ve been having the same dinners lately, I was laying in bed trying to think of a new meal, and chalupas came to mind. Now, let me tell you it was like a 3 hour ordeal in the kitchen, but sooo worth it! I made homemade flour tortillas, of course using the recipe on this blog, so that is why it took me a while to make this dinner! I don’t think they would be good with store bought flour tortillas, they are too thin. Enjoy!

there really isnt a recipe for these but here are some instructions

after you have made the flour tortillas, using the recipe from the blog, naturally, its time to fry and shape the chalupa.

you need at least 2 inches of hot oil in a pan, a dutch oven works the best. Heat the oil to 350, i use the popcorn kernel test to figure out when the oil is hot enough.

Once its reached the proper temp, slowly dip a tortilla into the oil for about 30 seconds, flip and then use a tongs to fold up one side and fry for about 30 secs on each side, its tricky to get it to look like a taco shape, it took me few times to get it to look somewhat close.

Once they are done let them dry on a paper towel while you finish up your proteins for the fillings.

Fill them up and enjoy! we dont even have a side dish with these because the are really filling.

Enjoy and send me photos of yours!
